Stephen Hillenburg
The mind behind one of the most popular cartoon series ever produced is no other than Stephen McDanell Hillenburg. He was born on August 21, 1961 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Before he created Spongebob, he was once a marine biologist. Aside from that, he is also a director, producer, writer, voice actor, animator and a cartoonist. He finished his bachelor's degree in marine resource planning and interpretation at Humboldt State University in 1984. His first profession was a professor in marine biology at Ocean Institute.
In 1992, he enrolled at the California Institute of the Arts to pursue his passion in animation. After graduating, he changed career then he met Joe Murray and joined his show (Rocko's Modern Life) as a writer.
He began creating SpongeBob in 1996 after Rocko's Modern Life has been cancelled and asked Tom Kenny, Murray's colleague, to voice for the character that he had developed. And from there, the success of the SpongeBob SquarePants brings the same success to his career and life.
The popularity of the cartoon series gave him different awards such as Emmy Awards and Annie Awards. He is now currently managing the Universal Plankton Pictures, a production company that he owns.
