- Who created SpongeBob? If you're an avid fan and a constant viewer of this cartoon series, you'll surely know who this person is. But anyway, the character of SpongeBob was created by Stephen Hillenburg. He's a former marine biologist who went to art school to study cartooning. Some says that SpongeBob is a reflection of Stephen's life because he was once a fry cook on a seafood restaurant just like SpongeBob do.
- Why Sponge? Why square? Why not fish or triangle? Hillenburg thought of an odd sea creature and so he guessed that sponge was the "oddest". But the lumpy shape of natural sponges didn't feel right for the character he wanted to create. A sink sponge turned out to be perfect - it's so clean and so "square" just like the innocent and un-hip SpongeBob.
- Why does he live on a Pineapple? SpongeBob lives in a Pineapple because pineapple is a common motif for Polynesian crafts. Sea creatures are also particular with smell so Hillenburg thought that SpongeBob would love the smell of a pineapple.
- When is SpongeBob's birthday? ('Cause I want to throw a party for him) According to SpongeBob's Driver's License, he was born on July 14, 1986. But he was already living on his own when the series debuted in 1999.
- Who's the voice behind SpongeBob? The one who laughs contagiously is owned by Tom Kenny. He said that his character's laugh was meant to make the viewers think of the ocean. it is based on the distinctive call of a dolphin with a touch of a seagull's shriek.
- Why SpongeBob? Why Bob? Why not Bill or Brad? Well, I don't know. But reality is, he was first called as SpongeBoy. However, that name was already copyrighted for a MOP. I know that's bizarre.
- Is SpongeBob a GAY?? I would not have wanted to be and fortunately he's not. Some says that he's depicting a gay's character because of his "flamboyant and tolerant attitude" but Hillenburg denied that SpongeBob or any of the character is gay. That's good news eh?
Here are just some of facts about Spongebob. Keep on reading the blogs and get to know more.
